New route in Patagonia’s remote Turbio valley : the story of two Canadian climbers

At the end of January, young Canadian climbers Flavie Cardinal and Jasper Pankratz opened a new route : Todo lo que se Comparte (TD, 5.11, A0, 500m) on the Pirita Central in the remote Turbio Valley, northern Patagonia. To complete this demanding ascent, they travelled 60 km on horseback, hiked for several days through Patagonian vegetation and made two attempts on the face. This adventure would not have been possible without the help of the local people in the valley.

 

In January, Flavie Cardinal and Jasper Pankratz spent three weeks exploring the remote Turbio Valley in Northern Patagonia. Their objective? Open a new route on the Pirita Central, a face of the valley that hasn’t been climbed a lot in the last decade. And they succeeded, leaving with the ascent of Todo lo que se Comparte, a new 5.11 A0 route over 500 meters long. Let’s notify that this line requires almost 400 meters of “approach slabs”, also 5.11, to reach the base of the main wall. Having just returned from her trip to Argentina, Flavie tells us about their expedition.
