Last November, Barbara Babsi Zangerl completed the amazing flash-style ascent of Freerider (VI 5.13a), the 1000-meter big wall on El Capitan, Yosemite. Openend in 1995 by Alexander Huber and freed by him in 1998 together with his brother Thomas Huber, this climb was later made world-famous by Alex Honnold’s free solo in June 2017.
The 36-year-old and her partner Jacopo spend three days battling polished slabs, offwidths and cryptic sequences on their historic bid. “In the end, Babsi topped out as the first person to flash El Cap.” Jacopo Larcher narrowly missed the flash after a single fall on the Boulder Problem Pitch. This film tells us a much deeper story of the whole experience: « One of love, partnership, and character. This is the real story of Babsi and Jacopo’s epic ascent, laid bare for all to see. »
