At the age of 24, Jorge Diaz-Rullo is one of the best climbers. This winter, he has just completed Sleeping Lion, the route freed by Chris Sharma, in Siurana, Catalonia. The Spaniard became the route’s 3rd climber, after Chris Sharma and Alex Megos, confirming the latter’s downgrading of the route to 9b. Jorge already has an impressive career : at the age of 20, he climbed his first 9b with Planta de Shiva, and achieved one of the few 9b+ on the climbing planet with Mejorando la Samfaina at Margalef, a first yet to be confirmed.
In 2023, Jorge Diaz-Rullo focused on Bibliographie at Céüse, France, the famous route proposed at 9c by Alex Megos, then reduced to 9b+ by the route’s two repeaters, Stefano Ghisolfi and Sean Bailey. On October 16, after months – years – of patience and sacrifice, Jorge Diaz-Rullo inscribed his name on the pinnacle of Bibliographie, undoubtedly the standard 9b+ of the time.
Here’s the film directed by Marco Zanone, recounting his quest for the very highest level of climbing.
